EVENTS & NEWS 2013

Gabriele Bovo e
dott.ssa Alessandra Pucci).

30 September - 3 October 2013 RARITY AT THE 74th NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE ITALIAN ZOOLOGICAL UNION The RARITY team from the University of Trieste presents two different posters at the 74th Congress of the "Unione Zoologica Italiana" (UZI). The two significant scientific works deal with the induction of the ovarian growth in Procambarus clarkii by silencing the gonad inhibiting hormone (poster 01), and the set up of a phage-display library for the trapping of the Louisiana red swamp crayfish (poster 02), respectively. Both of them are the result of the studies and efforts of the Trieste RARITY team which carried out the research-work in collaboration with the University of Maryland (IMET) and Laura Aquiloni (RARITY - University of Florence).

26-28 September 2013 RARITY AT CRAYCRO (REGIONAL EUROPEAN CRAYFISH MEETING) The RARITY team from the "Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie" (IZSVe) in collaboration with Laura Aquiloni (UNIFI) presented a poster at the CrayCro 2013 meeting held in Rovinj, Croatia. The poster deals with the "Monitoring of the crayfish plague agent, Aphanomyces astaci, in native and invasive crayfish of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region" providing maps and information about the issue. The research-work outlines that: "In Friuli Venezia Giulia the allocation of the P. clarkii populations is still confined in the southern part of the region; no coexistence of native and invasive crayfish has been recorded. A. astaci was detected in A. pallipes populations, geographically isolated, that have not been presumably in contact with invasive carrier crayfish. These findings suggest an independent circulation of A. astaci in the populations of the two species, and the presence of recurrent low pathogenic infection in native crayfish. Invasive populations show different prevalence of the carrier state." See the poster.
